Disclaimer

This project was done as a part of Zenius's recruitment process as a Product Designer. I got the job in the end.

Background

Zenius is one of Indonesia’s ed-tech companies that has been around for 18 years. They provide a variety of premium packages and one of the key differences between the premium package and the free package is the live class. Premium users are able to watch the premium free class. Free users can also watch the live class but only the free ones and it is limited.

During the recruitment process, they gave me a design test with the project brief.

The Problem-Solving Process

What is the problem?

This is the first question I asked after I received the challenge. To answer that, I conducted several things as a part of the problem-solving process.

Analyze the Document

Since I only have access to the brief, I analyze the brief document to get better understanding of Live Class.

In the brief, the background and objective are pretty clear although it’s not stated explicitly. The brief highlights the objective of the project by saying “with that in mind”. Based on this brief, it is clear that the goal is to increase the conversion rate from Live Class.

In order to drive users to purchase the premium package, it is necessary to show the difference between the free package and the premium package. Hence, showing the difference between premium & free packages becomes another goal of this project.

Project Goals

Based on the document, these are the goals of the project from the business side. As for the user goals, these are my hypotheses since I couldn’t conduct proper research.

Since I was a Zenius user myself, I was able to hypothesize the user goals by putting myself in the users’ shoes.

Business goals

  • Show the difference between one package to another

  • Drive users to buy the premium package

User goals

  • Learn through live class

  • Why? → so that they can ask questions

As I analyzed the document, I assumed these would be the success and failed metrics of the project.

Success metric

  • High conversion rate → number of people who purchase a premium package through live class

Failed metric

  • High abandonment rate → number of abandoned purchases from the live class

Review & Evaluation

As a first-time user myself, I get to experience the app for the first time. I jotted down the ‘reviews’ that I had when I first used the app.
